DriveSafe Course (Premium)

Our DriveSafe Premium Course offers participants who have successfully completed an Advanced Course the opportunity to develop their technique and car control skills to a higher level.

Along with fine tuning all aspects of the driver safety technique, the course also offers a group of very specific exercises designed to equip participants with the knowledge and skills to deal with a wide variety of emergencies.

The Premium Course is a must for any driver with professional driving aspirations, ie. driver training instructor, police, ambulance, fire officer, security officer, chauffer, courier, stunt performer or taxi driver - but is equally valuable for those drivers who want to improve their skills to the highest level.

A range of activities can be added to tailor the course if guests have specific requirements. For example, a limousine driver might want to cover a smooth stopping technique on top of the various other aspects of the course.

Following registration, the course begins with circuit training, revisiting the issues and techniques learned in the Advanced Course.

After morning tea, guests move in to an SS training car to refine their technique in a manual car, 'possible heel and toe down changing' activities may also be included depending on the individual driver's performance.

This is followed by Dry Lane Change training exercises, which are conducted at a progressively increased speed in a manual car. This segment also covers Dry Lane Change Maneuvers with evasive action onto the grass, returning to the track.

Circuit activities in the SSV8 over both days includes:-

• Heel and Toe Down Change
• Dry Lane Change (at increased speeds)
• Dry Lane Change with Evasive Manoeuvres
• Advanced Wet ABS Braking Exercises
• Advanced Dry ABS Braking Exercises
• Wet Lane Change (at increased speeds)
• Wet Lane Change with Evasive manoeuvres
• Instructor to student ratio = 1:2

All of these activities are enhanced throughout the entire program by the individual instruction provided by the Centre's experienced trainers.

Circuit training continues after lunch, this time in an anticlockwise direction in an SS manual training car. Techniques incorporate;

• brush and bury,
• A.B.S. braking technique -
  • on dry circuit
  • in the braking lanes and
  • on the back straight.
• Skid Pan training addresses understeer control and prevention,
• with the addition of power induced oversteer.

This session is followed by wet A.B.S. braking manoeuvres and wet lane change manoeuvers at higher speeds than the Advanced Course.

The final session covers oversteer training using the Centre's unique “Slide Simulator” on the Turntable. Unique to The Driving Centre, this device simulates the loss of control experienced in a rear end skid and is performed in a manual SSV8 at higher speeds than the Advanced Course, with a much narrower area for recovery.

Guests then return to the auditorium for the closing presentation.
